So, for my concept art class we were required to do 4 environment designs. Intimidating at first, and admittedly it took me quite some time to find my groove, but I ended up loving these! I got really into the sort of animation style of environment rather than that of video game environment design. The second one down was my "realistic" painting technique as it was required that we have at least one, which is why that one looks so different from the others. Even though I'm pretty happy with that one as well. Hope to do more of these soon.

Monster Bosses!
For my concept art class we were assigned to create 5 monster bosses for a fictional video game called Colony 12 that takes place on an alien planet. These are what I came up with, and although they all need some changes/improvements, I'm pretty happy with how they came out. I really got a lot more comfortable with digital painting in this assignment and that was a nice feeling. Onto the next!

Two new pieces!
So somehow in the wake of everything I needed to do for school this quarter I managed to turn out two new personal pieces and I'm really happy with both of them, especially the second one. I feel like I'm getting closer and closer to my "A-ha!" moment, as Vargo put it. So this summer should be interesting, and hopefully very productive.

Finished Bjork.
I believe this is the finished version. Changed the mountain idea to just lines, so that I can still have it white without it overpowering her face. I like the abstractness of it too. If you've ever seen photos of Bjork, then you know she doesn't like to do very conventional things so I think the vagueness of what's in her hair feeds into her personality. I'm really happy with it, although unsure of what my professor will say. Guess we'll find out come Monday morning.

Bjork Madness
Well, as part of my electronic class, I'm doing a portrait of Bjork. It was inspired by her song Joga, which is why I'm (trying to) ncorporating a landscape kinda meshed into the background of her hair. I'm liking it, my professor isn't too keen on the mountains as they are in this (this is most definitely a work in progress picture) so I have to try to get them to her liking by Monday. She suggested I make them purple instead of white, but I'm not too sure how much I like that idea.....but I'm happy with the face the way it is. It's my first time painting digitally, and it's quite fun. The next time I'd like to try out the mixer brush more. I haven't used it on this because I didn't want it to look super rendered. I do like it though, just have to work out the landscaping in the background.....hopefully.

Back to the grind
This is a post card that I did for Valentine's day (although it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual day...) that I just finally got a scan of. I know it's super simple, but I really like it and I think it may be an idea that I try to take further in another piece some time (whenever I get free time or find a way to incorporate it into school work)
In other news, classes just started again this week. I'm taking Electronic Illustration (about time) and Illustrative Approaches to Concept Design which I am SUPER excited and equally scared as hell about. We'll see how it goes. Concept art is something that has interested me for a very long time but I've never had the shot to actually try it, so it'll be fun and stupidly challenging. Both good. Little to no sleep, though. The sacrifices you make for your craft.

Final Number One
Just finished up my first final. This one is for editorial, it was based on a fortune cookie that said "Don't turn a blind eye to your enemies". I think this may be the first piece I've done all quarter that I actually like. It looks a bit desaturated on my screen, but looked good on the school computers, so I'm hoping it's just my screen. Now I have to go get it printed >_>

Been a while
It's been forever since I last posted. This quarter has been kind of nuts and I haven't been loving anything that's been coming from it. The only good piece of news that I have is that my Fall piece that I submitted to SCAD a while back made it into the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles and is now up on their website (for 2 years!) so that was really nice.
They were pretty fun to do, I wish I had a little more time on them since the last 2 were pretty rushed. but oh well! some other time. Hopefully I'll get some good pieces before this quarter ends, I've been feeling pretty dried up but maybe I'll surprise myself.
I just finished up these 5 spot illustrations tonight for editorial. Originally we were supposed to do something related to Savannah, but I wasn't feeling that at all so I decided to do spots based on the 5 best films of 2010 (according to me....not necessarily critic based. mostly because I threw TRON in there because I love that damn movie)
