Environments!

So, for my concept art class we were required to do 4 environment designs. Intimidating at first, and admittedly it took me quite some time to find my groove, but I ended up loving these! I got really into the sort of animation style of environment rather than that of video game environment design. The second one down was my "realistic" painting technique as it was required that we have at least one, which is why that one looks so different from the others. Even though I'm pretty happy with that one as well. Hope to do more of these soon.

Monster Bosses!

For my concept art class we were assigned to create 5 monster bosses for a fictional video game called Colony 12 that takes place on an alien planet. These are what I came up with, and although they all need some changes/improvements, I'm pretty happy with how they came out. I really got a lot more comfortable with digital painting in this assignment and that was a nice feeling. Onto the next!

Quick Self Portrait

For my Concept Art class we were asked to do three self portraits in three different styles. This is the one in "my" style, and I quite like the outcome.

Night and Day

District Quarterly has been doing a call for submissions for the their magazine this quarter with the theme of "Night and Day" and I got really motivated and busted this out yesterday. Felt good to be on a Cintiq again!

Two new pieces!

So somehow in the wake of everything I needed to do for school this quarter I managed to turn out two new personal pieces and I'm really happy with both of them, especially the second one. I feel like I'm getting closer and closer to my "A-ha!" moment, as Vargo put it. So this summer should be interesting, and hopefully very productive.

Finished Bjork.

I believe this is the finished version. Changed the mountain idea to just lines, so that I can still have it white without it overpowering her face. I like the abstractness of it too. If you've ever seen photos of Bjork, then you know she doesn't like to do very conventional things so I think the vagueness of what's in her hair feeds into her personality. I'm really happy with it, although unsure of what my professor will say. Guess we'll find out come Monday morning.

Bjork Madness

Well, as part of my electronic class, I'm doing a portrait of Bjork. It was inspired by her song Joga, which is why I'm (trying to) ncorporating a landscape kinda meshed into the background of her hair. I'm liking it, my professor isn't too keen on the mountains as they are in this (this is most definitely a work in progress picture) so I have to try to get them to her liking by Monday. She suggested I make them purple instead of white, but I'm not too sure how much I like that idea.....but I'm happy with the face the way it is. It's my first time painting digitally, and it's quite fun. The next time I'd like to try out the mixer brush more. I haven't used it on this because I didn't want it to look super rendered. I do like it though, just have to work out the landscaping in the background.....hopefully.
